OF MANAGED AQUIFER RECHARGE AREAS FOR THE ELDORET AQUIFER SYSTEMS

The Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources Education Training and Research (RCGW) is a State Corporation under
the Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation established under the State Corporations Act vide Legal Notice 252 of 18th
December, 2015 to promote sustainable development and management of groundwater resources through research,
education and training. The Government of the Republic of Kenya (GoK) has received financing from the Africa Development
Bank toward the cost of National Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Program and intends to apply part of the
proceeds toward payments under the contract for “Consultancy Services for Groundwater Mapping and Assessment
of Managed Aquifer Recharge areas for the Eldoret Aquifer Systems”.
The Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources Education Training and Research (RCGW) now invites eligible consulting
firms to submit sealed Expression of Interest (EoI) for Consultancy Services for Groundwater Mapping and Assessment
of Managed Aquifer Recharge areas for the Eldoret Aquifer Systems.
The overall objective of the assignments is to undertake feasibility study for managed aquifer recharge in the in Eldoret
Aquifer Systems towards providing guidelines for the implementation of a planned project.
1. Identify and delineate the extent of the aquifer Systems and the Catchment that recharges them,
2. Identify, map and estimate the infiltration potential of recharge zones.
3. Identify, quantify and assess the quality of water from the potential water sources available for the implementation
of MAR in Eldoret Aquifer System.
4. Determine the suitable MAR methods and design the appropriate infrastructure for the implementation of MAR
within Aquifer Systems in Eldoret.
5. Establish suitable observation wells and appropriate water level monitoring systems to monitor the implementation
of MAR within Eldoret Aquifer Systems. .
6. Develop an economic business model for MAR implementation within Eldoret Aquifer Systems.
7. Generate a database for collected data and results sharing
8. Undertake an environmental and social impact baseline survey.
The Consultancy Services will be carried out over a period of 12 (Twelve) months.
Interested consultants must provide information indicating their qualification to perform the assignment. Consultants may
constitute joint-ventures to enhance their chances of qualification.
The shortlisting criteria are:
• Experience in 5 No. similar assignments in the last 15 years and provide evidence of the undertaken Contracts
• Availability of expertise with relevant experience of at least 5 years in related assignments
• The individual experts should be registered by relevant professional bodies
• The consulting firm should have a Team Leader / Groundwater Management Specialist, Hydrogeologist, Groundwater
Data Management Expert, Water Supply Engineer/ Design and Cost engineer, Environmental and Economic/
Business Modelling Expert)
• Firm’s Registration Details (Business Licence, Tax Compliance, Shareholders)
A Consultant will be selected in accordance with the Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) method set out in the
Consultant Guidelines.
