CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI)

DEVELOPMENT OF A FINANCIAL INCLUSION STRATEGY 

Self Help Africa (SHA) is an International organization based in Nairobi with its headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. Its vision, is an economically thriving and resilient rural Africa. SHA has operations in 9 African countries across Eastern, Southern and West Africa. In Kenya, SHA has over 15 years track record in more than 40 Counties working with smallholder farmers, farmer associations, cooperatives and small and medium sized enterprises. SHA’s approach to agricultural development is market driven and backed by technical expertise, evidence based best practices built over time from extensive experience in value chain development and project implementation. In addition, SHA works to raise awareness of smallholder farmers’ issues and represent their interests at policy and institutional levels.

Financial inclusion has been identified as an enabler for eight out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). On strengthening the implementation of the SDGs, there is an implicit role for greater financial inclusion through enhanced savings and mobilization, insurance, payments and access to appropriate credit all aimed at spurring growth. Additionally, in Kenya 17% of adults remain excluded from Financial access (Finaccess household survey,2019)

SHA has facilitated sound financing models through promotion of financial inclusivity and waare interested in developing a structured Financial Inclusion Strategy to guide this work on access to finance. Previously, SHA has worked with VSLAs groups in the cassava value chain with partnerships with Rafiki Microfinance Bank and Imarika SACCO in Kilifi County. In addition, our flagship challenge fund project, AgriFi has linked the SMEs to Equity Bank and other financial institutions for financial services.

The Overall objective of this assignment is to develop a strategy that will guide SHA-Kenya work on financial inclusion for the next five years. This strategy will detail financial inclusion approaches from project conceptualization, design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The strategy will inform SHA-Kenya’s approach to transformative financial inclusivity in building sustainable livelihoods, with sensitivity to cross cutting issues like gender, youth, climate smart, and greening initiatives.
