KENYA REVENUE AUTHORITY TENDER JULY 2022

PUBLIC NOTICE

Masqueraders Warned Against Engaging in Tax Malpractices

The Kenya Revenue Authority (hereinafter ‘KRA’) wishes to inform members of the general public of the increased number of criminals masquerading as officers of KRA. These fraudsters have the intention of soliciting for bribes, extorting taxpayers and demanding for crucial information of the tax affairs of citizens that is confidential and privileged. In the recent past, KRA has continued to detect and disrupt these masqueraders.

By this notice, KRA wishes to notify members of the public that personation of public officers is an offence under section 105(b) of the Penal Code which provides that:

  1. “Any person who – (b) falsely represents himself to be a person employed in the public service, and assumes to do any act or to attend in any place for the purpose of doing any act by virtue of such employment commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for three years”.

While KRA has embarked on investigations to identify the perpetrators of this fraudulent scheme, it is conscious that some of these criminals may have already duped innocent Kenyans. Kindly note that officers of KRA must always provide identification prior to transacting on behalf of the KRA. Consequently, members of the public are hereby requested to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of documents requested from them on behalf of KRA.

Members of the public are hereby notified that KRA undertakes to detect and disrupt these criminal activities aimed at defrauding innocent taxpayers while at the same time damaging KRA’s image.
