PROVISION OF A COMPREHENSIVE STAFF MEDICAL INSURANCE COVER FOR THE YEAR 2026 – (UNDERWRITER INSURANCE COMPANY)
Background
The Deutsche Gesellschaft for Internationale Zusammenarbeit [GIZ] GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. We support the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We are also engaged in international education activities around the globe. Through our work we assist people and societies in shaping their own future and improving living conditions.
GIZ has been a long-standing partner of the Kenyan government since 1975. focusing on Various sectors including agriculture, food security, sustainable economic development, good governance, energy, transport, climate change, and migration. Our projects are designed to support capacity development and enhance Kenyan livelihoods through their own efforts.
Scope
GIZ Office Nairobi seeks to contract a reputable underwriting insurance company to provide staff medical insurance that entails benefits which ensure members of staff receive quality health care.
The proposed Staff Medical Scheme shall be fully enhanced medical scheme cover and is intended to provide all employees and their dependents quality and affordable medical and health care services on 24-hour cover basis taking into cognizance of the unpredictable nature of sicknesses and/or accidents.
While it is appreciated that medical schemes come with inherent controls and procedures, GIZ is hoping that the selected provider will look at the possibility of ensuring that any controls and procedures are not unnecessarily bureaucratic and cumbersome.
Eligibility criteria
Interested bidders MUST meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Conditions to be met by the underwriter (insurance company)
- Must be registered with the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) for the current . ear and a copy of the current license be submitted.
- Must have done annual gross premiums in previous year of KES. 2 billion E’, sense proof of underwriter having . paid-up capital of at least KES. 1 billion [authenticated by IRA).
- Must give a list of 5 [five] reputable clients and the total clients’ premiums within the last three (3) years together with their contacts and physical addresses.
- Must submit a certified copy of the audited accounts for the last three years 2022,2023 and2024.
- Submit company profile and attach CVs of five [5] key management and technical staff.
- Statutory Documents:
- Valid Tax Compliance Certificate
- Company PIN
- Certificate of Registration/Incorporation of the Company’s Act Cap 486
- Current license from the county government where the head office is domiciled/Business permit
- CR12 for the current year
- Current professional indemnity certification from IRA
- Evidence/proof of operating medical insurance [Inpatient and outpatient] business for the last five [5] years.
- Business Support
- Must have a Reinsurance policy in place from a well-known and registered Insurance/Reinsurance Company. State or provide the name(s) of the Reinsurance Company [ies] and attach evidence in the form of reinsurance slip(s) or cover notes.
- Completely filled Confidential Business Questionnaire.
- Complete the form of tender and price schedule in the formats provided.
- The tender document must be duly completed, signed, stamped and submitted as per the tender instructions.
- Submit tender documents for medical properly numbered/serialized and (Marked as per instructions”)
- The bidders must quote for Staff Medical Insurance both Inpatient and Outpatient for the bids to be considered complete.
- The bidder must be an underwriting company.
- Tender validity period and price MUST be valid for a period of 90 days
