ADVERT FOR RFP 00337026: PROVISION OF GENDER DIMENSION OF CLIMATE SECURITY AND ADAPTATION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE KARAMOJA REGION
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is inviting bids for a consultancy to conduct a study on the Gender Dimensions of Climate Security and Adaptation in the context of the Karamoja Region. The study will cover Turkana Loima sub-county, North Pokot Alale sub-county, and Moroto District.
Background
The Karamoja Cluster, spanning Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia, faces increasing vulnerability to climate change, including droughts, resource scarcity, and conflict. These impacts disproportionately affect women, girls, and marginalized groups due to entrenched gender inequalities. This consultancy seeks to provide actionable recommendations for gender-responsive climate adaptation and security strategies.
Objectives
The study aims to:
- Examine the gendered impacts of climate change, considering roles, inequalities, and intersectional factors (e.g., age, ethnicity).
- Investigate how climate-induced resource scarcity exacerbates conflicts and gender-based vulnerabilities, such as displacement and violence.
- Review existing policies and frameworks, identifying gaps in gender responsiveness.
- Develop strategies for integrating gender perspectives into adaptation, conflict resolution, and resource management.
Scope and Methodology
The consultant will conduct:
- Desk Review: Analyze relevant literature, national policies, and case studies on climate change and pastoralism.
- Field Research: Conduct field visits to Turkana, North Pokot, and Moroto to gather primary data through interviews and focus group discussions.
- Final Report and Policy Paper: Prepare a report detailing findings and recommendations, along with a policy brief.
Deliverables
- Inception Report: Including methodology and work plan.
- Research Assessment: Data collection, analysis, and report on findings.
- Final Report and Policy Paper: Synthesized research findings and recommendations.
Consultant Requirements
- Educational Qualifications: Master’s degree in gender studies, climate change, environmental science, conflict studies, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in climate change, gender analysis, conflict, and peacebuilding.
- Skills: Proven research, analytical, and communication skills, with an understanding of the Karamoja region.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel to conflict-affected areas in the Karamoja Cluster.
