PROVISION OF WAREHOUSE SPACE IN MOMBASA.
The United Nations World Food Programme [UNWFP] is the food-assistance agency of the United Nations and is the world’s largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger and promoting food security.
In order to complement its operations in Kenya, UNWFP seeks to rent warehouse space in Mombasa.
- The facility will have to comply with the following minimum criteria:
- Area of warehouse required is a minimum of 120,000 square feet all within one area. And able to store upto 5,000 mt of cargo including space for pallets/racks and loading bays. Consideration will be given for warehouses with less capacity but can demonstrate verifiable plan to add more space within same premises in a given specified time.
- Location should be within Mombasa or its environs, preferably along Mombasa Island and along the Mombasa to Nairobi highway from the island up to the proposed Bonje Industrial Park Area . The access link road to the warehouse facility should be tarmacked or easily accessed.
- Adequate water supply and storage or access to a borehole.
- Reliable power supply, preferably three-phase electricity and backup generators.
- The structure of the warehouse should have integrity adequate floor load capacity, ventilation, and lighting.
- Availability of container yard to handle containers.
- Warehouse grounds should have adequate space for trucks to man oeuvre, offload/load cargo as well as parking.
- Provision for parking should also include space for light vehicles, electric trucks and at least two charging stations for the e-vehicles.
- Permanent perimeter fence reinforced with electric wire.
- Facility should have provision of CCTV cameras as per Customs regulations and security sensor system for arming doors, proper gate access and control separation for WFP and non-WFP access. Proximity to Police Station or private security firm for rapid response is important.
- Firefighting system and water hydrant should be in place within the facility.
- Warehouse should have provision for well ventilated office space to accommodate at least 35 people.
- There should be electrical connecting ports for use of office electrical and electronic equipment.
- Layout should be clear between offices and warehouses. Rest rooms for porters should be away from the main warehouse facility.
- Within a gated compound, preferably with a maximum number of other three or less users.
- Warehouses should meet all statutory requirements for the storage of food for human consumption as well as building safety codes as per national and local government health and safety regulations (evidence of the same to be provided including up to date necessary permits and licenses].
- Special Economic Zone [ SEZ] status for the facility is desirable.
- Availability of additional space or modular options for future growth
- Should be ready for occupation from 1 November 2025.
