CALL FOR OFFERS

CONSULTANCY ON IMPLEMENTING TRAININGS OF TRAINERS ON THE SPIS TOOLBOX

 

The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH implements the global project Water and Energy for Food (WE4F) as commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

WE4F aims to promote and to strength the use of climate-friendly, energy- and water-efficient innovations for more productive and ecologically sustainable food production. Solar Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS) are one of these technologies. SPIS increase the decentralized availability of energy and water and allow rainfall and conventional energy supply fluctuations to be mitigated (climate adaptation).

In cooperation with the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) WE4F plans to support capacity building in the field of

sustainable irrigation with solar water pumps and to train frontline staff at different sites in the Lake Victoria region. In the Trainings of Trainers, frontline workers are trained on the technology of SPIS, the options for financing such systems that are available in Western Kenya and about the didactic approach of giving trainings.

GIZ is seeking for a consultancy that adapts and creates training materials on Solar Powered Irrigation systems as well as plans and implements a number of Training of Trainers at different locations in the Lake Victoria Region. The training approach bases on the Toolbox on Solar Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS) that was developed by GIZ and FAO.

Interested consultancies must consist of at least 4 experts that can plan and implement ToTs on the SPIS Toolbox. Experts have a graduate degree in relevant subjects i.e. energy/ irrigation/ environmental engineering, renewables energies, environmental sciences, water management; 5 years of professional experience in the energy/ irrigation sector, specifically in sustainable irrigation or renewable energies; 5 years’ work experience in East Africa region, of which 3 years in Kenya. Experts have participated in an SPIS Toolbox Training of Trainers organized by GIZ and relevant experience in planning and implementing SPIS Toolbox Trainings.

Interested consultancies must provide verifiable proof of qualifications and experience in similar/related services. The tenderer is also requested to provide a summary assessment of the team proposed and must specify their positions, tasks and qualifications for each expert. More details are provided in the Terms of Reference.
