REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES FOR THE
OPEN UNIVERSITY OF KENYA

The Government of Kenya is in the process of establishing The Open University of Kenya (OUK). The
university will provide quality affordable, accessible and flexible higher education through online
and blended learning modes. The University will draw on flexible entry criteria as well as a variety of
cutting-edge technologies to expand access to university education cost-effectively. The Open University
of Kenya will offer a number of academic programmes progressively to produce graduates who are
critical thinkers, practical oriented, creative and innovative. OUK graduates will play a leading in academia,
research, leadership and will provide the expertise required in the public and private sectors for socio-economic
transformation nationally, regionally and globally.
The State Department for Higher Education and Research wishes to work with a multidisciplinary team of
experts from within and outside the region to develop programmes to be offered in the first phase of the
University. The programmes include:
1. Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics;
2. Bachelor of Technology Education;
3. Bachelor of Science in Business and Entrepreneurship;
4. Bachelor of Data Science;
5. Bachelor of Economics and Statistics;
6. Bachelor of Science in Agri-technology and Food Systems;
7. Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Accountability;
8. Postgraduate Diploma in Learning Design and Technology.
Those interested in developing the above programmes will be expected to work independently and also
collaboratively with other experts as well as Ministry of Education staff to deliver on the assignment.
The scope of individual consultancy services will include but not limited to the following:
1. Articulate Programme Learning Outcomes;
2. Identify and sequence courses within the various programme architectures; where individuals
have expertise;
3. Researching and creating original content for individual courses;
4. Providing details of interactive pedagogical strategies, approaches and styles responsive
to digital content;
5. Identifying/developing and incorporating a variety of course delivery support materials
such as case studies, simulations, webinars, videos, practical exercises, journal articles
and other references.
Interested individuals must provide information on their capacity and experience in relation to the assignment:
Qualifications
1. Ph.D. in a relevant field for content authors;
2. At least a Masters degree (for Technical ICT support, Research and Administration);
3. Over 5 years’ experience in developing academic programmes for a university;
4. Demonstrable experience in utilizing innovative pedagogical strategies;
5. Online and blended pedagogical experience will be an added advantage;
6. Ability to work remotely as well as collaboratively in a team and deliver results within tight time
frames.
