INTRODUCTION

University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) School of Medicine was es^blished in 1807 and is the 5th oldest medical school in the US. UMB’s international health programs are delivered through a global health office (Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation – MGIC) and are housed under the university’s Institute of Human Virology. Through these programs, UMB has provided advanced training in HIV and infectious diseases to health workers and students around the world; provided technical support to national and regional governments in the development of HIV policies and guidelines and to facility teams for the provision of quality HIV services. In Kenya, UMB through the Institute of Human Virology started operations in 2004 and has implemented several programs funded by Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through HRSA/CDC:-
